Trooper Update
Okie dokey! With the help of Jon my son, I was able to isolate the noise reported on the last episode. Previously, I found that the camshaft sprocket bolts came loose from the factory on the new crate engine. which allowed the camshaft forward and backward movement, which allowed the lifter to drop off of it's lobe, and then when the lobe came back around it destroyed the lifter. Evidently when the lobe came back around and struck the lifter it caused the lifter to bang extra hard on the pushrod which put extra pressure on the rocker arm which pushed the valve extra hard. I think one of two things resulted:
1. The valve and or vavle shaft was damaged
2. The valve struck the piston and the valve is damaged and/or the piston also
If the piston is damaged, then the engine is not worth working on other than for educational purposes.
However, if it is a bad valve or valve seat, then I will just get the heads replaced.
I'll continue taking the heads off this coming weekend.
I hope it is just the valve.
